Hobby supplies arrived today with the pro-acryl 1step medium and a chrome paint. I like to keep the mediums paired with the speed/contrast style paints as they all behave a bit differently and a test I did with the green I’m using for my dark angels covered a bit too well when I used it neat.

The initial experiment went well. As always with these paints I’m not quite happy with how it went over the larger panels, but thinning it has left a bit of the highlights more intact and I think it’ll work well for my Dark Angels going forwards. I can’t get enthusiastic enough about space marines to put that much effort into them, but a nice enough looking army is always a nice looking army.

I’ve been experimenting with Dark Angel colour schemes again, which is something of a hobby, and I think the secret sauce that might work for me is Pro Acryl 1 step Dark Green. Start with a purple base, drybrush up with some greens getting lighter and then hit it with the 1step paint. I think it needs to be watered down a bit so I’ve got some of the medium for it arriving tomorrow to see how it works. I have a test model ready to go for when that arrives.

Guess what? Hobbystreaks are a great way to burn you out and I should never go near them.

There’s not been a lot of painting since the last update, I’ve been busy with other things and you know how it is. Malifaux 4th edition sucked all of the enthusiasm out of that game for a while, Game Workship did similar with Warhammer.

I have got some things done. I’ve assembled some Fallout miniatures but then they changed the game totally and so I’m waiting to see what the single player version of that plays like. I’m probably more interested in it than I was now as there’s fantastic minis, some great terrain possibilities and a game I can play on my own is never a bad thing. Eldfall Chronicles also got me interested, or rather the board game version Northern Wind did. Fantastic minis, I’ve assembled a load but need to paint them. Heatwaves and not wanting to undercoat minis in that has kept me a bit behind on that though. The image on this post is the exclusive mini from the boxed game.
