I got a delivery of some more basing materials today because I just don’t have enough for green lush worlds. I probably should for non-40k models but now I have loads of moss static grass pieces and some basing bits that always seem brighter than I would want. I need to work out what I’m going to do for my space dinosaurs for the space elves, some stones. Some static grass bits. Mud? That doesn’t sound right. Short grassland? Again not right. Bases seem to look like somebody has a lawnmower too much.

I’ve not painted much in the last few days because of lack of time, but I did put together the rest of the models from the exodites. I also found a marine arm I had dropped which had discouraged me from continuing with those; it had dropped into some storage so when I had looked on the floor hadn’t been able to find it. I need a net under my desk that stops anything dropping more than 30cm I think before it gets caught. Or a fancy high speed camera that tracks bits as they fall and tells me what they’ve bounced under. That has to already exist for industrial uses, right?

On the actual painting front I’ve been playing with contrast paints on scales again. They’re really kind of the best use case for them aren’t they? Just perfect for a quick win in ways that all the other model types can’t match. And I know I could pick out the highlights on every scale using traditional methods but… no. Just no. Even drybrushing wouldn’t look as good I think.
