I picked up the Killteam Exodites boxed set, which is the first killteam box I’ve picked up in forever. I used to buy them all but wasn’t quick enough to get to order one before it sold out and just lost interest in the whole thing. But Space Elves on Space Dinosaurs… who could resist.
There’s things about this release that I really like. I know it’ll play terribly of course, GW only pretend to be a games company these days, but the box itself is very refreshing. All of the minis are low technology types so you’re playing on a green battlefield. There are leaved and trees in the book. It tells you how to build the scenery and has plans for some large Aeldari bits that you can make out of plasticard. They are terrible plans and frankly I’d just 3D print them at this point instead of following their awful instructions with suspect measurements.
I hate what Warhammer 40,000 became from 3rd edition onwards and Cities of Death as a direction is something I hate even more. It turned a varied selection of battlefields into the same exact ruined imperial city every single time. Sure you might be in a slightly different part with slightly different architecture but that just means the buildings have different skulls on them. I want to be fighting in a random xenos city. Or woodland. Or pristine green fields. Or a marshland where surface vehicles get bogged down.
I think the closest they came to this was the Ork buildings from Killteam, but even then they just felt like “What if Imperial but Orky.”
Anyway, I’ve been painting a small ridable dinosaur and enjoying every second of it.
