To start the week here’s the partially painted models I’m working on.
That’s not even all of them. There’s a Deff Dread too and a few other bits. I’ll pretend they don’t exist for now. Oh and a Librarian. Never mind. I need to get it under control so I post a picture to shame myself into doing it.
The Vespid and the Marines are the nearest to being finished, and the Tyranids at the front aren’t going to take much longer to do either so that’s the goal for the week. I need to assemble more Vespids after that to finish the killteam.
There’s a set of Von Ryan’s Leapers there as well, which is the second squad out of three that I’m working on in order to have one of the combat patrols.
Started by doing some work on the Infernus marines. I had managed to miss a whole purity seal, which is one of those seemingly impossible things that happens with GW models and I look forwards to the Deathguard from the killteam starter set where it’ll be a constant stream of “oh, how did I manage to miss another tentacle?” They’re nearly done now with all of the details picked out except for the head of the sergeant and the Tyranid head on the limited edition one. The problem is that I’m now at the “I’m bored of painting these models” stage and just want to speed through the last bits even though they’re what would make the paint job actually look better.
Another thing that will help is finally sorting out a permanent photography area. In this case it’s a 3D printed white backdrop that fits on my bookshelf and some LED lights to make it nice and bright. Hopefully that idea will work for me as I know that if I have to do too many steps I just won’t do a thing, and the most useful thing I can do to improve my painting is horrific close up photos to show me my every error. That and having it be “I think these are done, I’ll take a photo to check. How did I miss that whole arm?” rather than saying they’re done and moving on.
And one photo later…
OK not that great. None of the highlights even show up, which is a common problem with me as I never push them far enough. I also don’t like the flamer muzzle thing and I’m just messy in too many places.
How is that worse?
Grumble.
Is it that photographing dark green models is really hard? I think I may have hit the “fiddling with it too much” barrier.
One thing is for sure that black has to change so I’ve repainted it from Pro-Acryl Satin Black to Coal Black. Not being shiny will help. I’ve also upped the highlights a bit more but I don’t want to go too mad. Can it be that edge highlighting is the only thing that works on darker marines unless you’re insanely good? I refuse to believe that.
